 RAMTRON SHIPS ULTRA-FAST, HIGH-DENSITY ENHANCED
 DRAM PRODUCT SAMPLES
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Ramtron International Corporation, a majority-owned subsidiary of Ramtron Holdings Ltd. (NASDAQ: MEMRY), announces the shipment of its first high- performance enhanced dynamic RAM (EDRAM) product samples.
Ramtron's EDRAM utilizes an innovative chip architecture that provides ultra-high performance in advanced personal computers and workstations. Using EDRAM improves computer system performance while reducing overall system cost, power consumption, and computer board area.
Typical applications for the EDRAM include DRAM plus cache main memory replacement in high-end personal computers and workstations, SRAM replacement in laser printers, and other memory applications where high performance and low cost are necessary. The EDRAM addresses the growing high-performance memory market which Ramtron estimates to exceed $1 billion in 1992.
"EDRAM has generated a significant number of inquiries from computer manufacturers," states Todd Oseth, Ramtron's specialty DRAM business director. "Current and future generation computer designers are seeing many benefits in this memory that have not previously been available in conventional DRAMs. Design-in programs for the EDRAM have begun and will continue to grow in number."
The EDRAM is based on an advanced DRAM technology developed by Ramtron, NMB Semiconductor (NMBS) of Tateyama, Japan, and United Memories, Inc., a joint venture company formed between Ramtron and NMBS. Ramtron's EDRAM products will be manufactured at NMBS' Mod 3 facility in Tateyama.
Ramtron is offering the EDRAM in 15 nanoseconds (ns) and 20 ns versions, more than twice the speed of the fastest DRAMs available. Sample quantities of the EDRAM are available now directly from Ramtron. Production units will be available in the fourth quarter of 1992.
Ramtron International Corporation manufactures and markets leading- edge semiconductor memory including high-performance specialty DRAMs and proprietary ferroelectric random access memory FRAM(R) products. Ramtron holds 33 international patents covering its proprietary technologies and products, and had more than 75 additional patents filed.
FRAM is a registered trademark of Ramtron International Corporation.
