RAMTRON'S ULTRA-FAST EDRAM IN PRODUCTION -- EDRAM SPEEDS YARC SYSTEM'S COPROCESSOR BOARD

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Ramtron International Corporation (NASDAQ: RMTR) announces production availability of its family of 4-megabit enhanced dynamic RAM (EDRAM) products and initial commercial orders.
"The EDRAM is being well received in the marketplace," states Todd Oseth, Ramtron's vice president of specialty DRM. "We have received a number of EDRAM orders totalling over one million dollars for a variety of applications including VME boards, graphics accelerator cards, and specialized workstations. Due to the value added benefits of the EDRAM, Ramtron expects to begin penetrating the commodity computer memory market."
Ramtron's EDRAM uses an innovative integrated circuit architecture that allows ultra-high performance in advanced personal computers, workstations and add-on boards. The EDRAM's benefits are higher computer system performance with reduced overall system cost, power consumption, and computer board area. The EDRAM competes in the specialty DRAM market which consists of video, graphics, and high performance computing system memories. Dataquest, a company of the Dun and Bradstreet Corporation, estimates the specialty DRAM market to grow to seven billion dollars by 1996.
EDRAM memories are available in production volumes from Ramtron's worldwide network of representatives and distributors, and sell for $15 to $20 per chip which is typically more cost effective than the combination DRAM/SRAM solution it replaces.
YARC(R) Systems Corporation Among Early Adopters of EDRAM
YARC Systems Corporation has chosen the EDRAM for use in its new MacRageous II graphics coprocessor board announced in January 1993. When combined with proprietary software, the EDRAM helps increase the speed of YARC's board by 40 to 50 percent over its existing product.
"Until now, we have been designing with 45 nanosecond (ns) and 60ns DRAMs that allowed us to achieve desirable performance rates on 25 MHz computer systems," comments Dr. Trevor Marshall, YARC's chief technical officer. "But the EDRAM allows us to run at 40MHz and consistently achieve the performance rates we need. The EDRAM is by far the fastest DRAM available today."
YARC Systems Corporation, based in California, designs and manufactures high speed coprocessor systems for Macintosh(R) II, IBM PC/AT(R) compatible and PS/2(R) personal computers. YARC is recognized internationally as the leading exponent coprocessing technology and products. In addition to its strong U.S. sales, YARC also exports 25 to 30 percent of its products to western Europe and Asia.
Ramtron International Corporation manufactures and markets leading edge semiconductor memories, including high-performance specialty DRAM's and proprietary ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM(R)) products. Ramtron holds 34 international patents covering its proprietary technologies and products and has more than 94 additional patents filed.
