RAMTEK: SEAMLESS INTEGRATION OF TERRAIN RS AND SPANS GIS
RAMTEK: SEAMLESS INTEGRATION OF TERRAIN RS AND SPANS GIS SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Ramtek Corp.
(NASDAQ: RMTK) today announced the seamless integration of Ramtek's remote sensing imaging product, TERRAIN RS with SPANS, a geographical information system (GIS) product developed by TYDAC Technologies Corp. Users can now process satellite, Landsat TM or aerial images and at the same time access the GIS product to give them detailed information easily and quickly without transferring to other application programs or reformatting data. TERRAIN RS and SPANS are available on open systems under UNIX using the OSF/Motif graphical user interface.
Giulio Maffini, president of TYDAC, says, "We're very pleased with our union with Ramtek. This integration of imaging and GIS is very innovative. Our mutual users will now have the ability to significantly build on and exploit the benefits of their investment in remote sensing and geographic data." Chris McBean, director of business development of Ramtek's systems division, states, "Older systems lack the seamlessness of TERRAIN RS and SPANS and, therefore, cost the user lost time switching application programs. Whereas TERRAIN RS and SPANS can be used concurrently to provide a very efficient method of gathering and processing information. For example, a forester may require the latest satellite data for an analysis of California's Sierra mountains devastated by fires this past summer, and can quickly and easily bring up the image and compare it with the GIS for lost acreage, trees and buildings." McBean further adds, "Providing solutions for imaging is our goal and we're very excited about the TERRAIN RS and SPANS integration." Ramtek Corp., founded in 1971 and headquartered in San Jose, designs and manufactures image processing, graphic display and mass storage back-up systems for markets such as remote sensing, reconnaissance and surveillance, natural resource management, environmental studies, geographical sciences, command and control, forensic science, medical imaging and other information systems. TYDAC develops, markets and supports the SPANS line of GIS products. Intera Information Systems and IBM are equity partners in the company, which has offices in the United States, Canada, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. -0- 11/10/92 /CONTACT: Karen L.
