 RALPH MICHAEL ELECTED PRESIDENT OF PNC'S CENTRAL TRUST;
 WILL SUCCEED BRUCE ROBBINS AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
 CINCINNATI, May 12 -- PNC Financial Corp (NYSE: PNC) today announced that the Board of Directors of The Central Trust Company, N.A., a PNC bank, has elected Ralph S. ("Mike") Michael, III as president and announced that he will succeed Bruce E. Robbins as chief executive officer later in the year, when Robbins returns to Pittsburgh to assume new responsibilities within PNC.
 The board also elected J. Clay Stinnett, currently president of Central Trust, as vice chairman, with responsibilities for Retail Banking, Marketing, Information and Operations and Financial Services.
 "Mike Michael is one of the finest corporate bankers in the industry. He and his family are looking forward to moving to Cincinnati and becoming a part of the community," said Robbins. "He will lead an extraordinary team of bankers at Central Trust."
 Michael was elected executive vice president of Pittsburgh National Bank, a PNC bank, in 1991. He has been responsible for all of the bank's corporate lending activities.
 He joined Pittsburgh National in 1979 as a commercial banking representative and was named commercial banking officer in 1980, assistant vice president in the U.S. Group in 1981 and vice president in the Multinational division in 1982. He was appointed senior managing director of PNC Merchant Banking Company, a PNC company, in 1988.
 Michael is a member of the boards of directors of Wetterau Properties Inc., Wetterau Insurance Company, Ltd., and T.H.E. Inc. In addition, he serves as vice president, treasurer and trustee of Penn's Southwest Association, the economic development organization for southwestern Pennsylvania, and president and trustee of Fox Chapel Country Day School.
 Michael received his bachelor of arts degree in 1977 from Stanford University and his master's degree in business administration from the UCLA Graduate School of Management in 1979.
 Stinnett has been with Central Trust since 1973 and rose through positions in the Specialized Lending and Consumer Finance divisions. He was elected vice president in 1979 and senior vice president in 1981. In 1984, Stinnett was elected executive vice president of Central Trust and senior vice president of The Central Bancorporation. He became executive vice president of Central Bancorporation and senior vice president of Central Trust in 1986 and president and chief operating officer of both in 1990.
 Robbins was elected president of Central Bancorporation in 1990 and chairman and chief executive officer later that year. He joined Pittsburgh National Bank in 1973 and rose through its commercial banking division, being elected vice president in 1979 and senior vice president and manager of the Multinational division's Pittsburgh/Ohio Group in 1981. He was elected executive vice president of PNC in 1989.
 Robbins is a member of the boards of trustees of the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, INROADS Cincinnati, Inc. and the Cincinnati Business Committee. He also serves on the board of directors of Eastern Stainless Corporation.
 Robbins received a bachelor of arts degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1968.
