RADISYS ANNOUNCES PCMCIA CARRIER MODULE AND FOUR NEW I/O MODULES FOR ITS EMBEDDED PC LINES

BEAVERTON, Ore., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- RadiSys Corp., the embedded PC company, introduced today five new cards in its EXM series. RadiSys' EXM modules are compatible with VME and VXI backplanes and are small enough to fit in the compact and rugged Embedded Modular Computer (EMC) line of chassis.
The EXM-17 carrier module provides one slot for a PCMCIA card. PCMCIA is the industry standard for credit card sized plug-in modules developed for laptop and notebook computers. The EXM-17 allows one PCMCIA card, including off-the-shelf networking, fax, solid-state disks and modems to be used in a VXI, VME or EMC chassis. The EXM-17 provides a quick and easy way to expand the functionality and connectivity of an embedded PC.
Four more new EXM modules expand the I/O capabilities of the product line to include printer ports, digital I/O, and multiple channel A/D and D/A converters.
"The EXM-17 gives OEMs new flexibility through access to hundreds of available PCMCIA cards. Its an easy way to integrate solid-state flash cards, networking, fax and modem functions into their VME, VXI or EMC-based equipment," said Steve Cooper, director of Business Development at RadiSys. "The new I/O modules open up automated equipment and process control applications to our compact EMC family."
RadiSys' offers three chassis in its EMC line to house the EXM cards and a variety of CPU modules, disk drives, video controllers and I/O; a compact four-slot card cage (EMC-CC4), a six-slot chassis (EMC-CH6D), and an eight-slot chassis (EMC-CH8). These chassis are very small and very rugged. The CC4, for example, measures just 4.3 inches tall by 3.5 inches wide by 6.6 inches deep. The EMC chassis are designed to be embedded and mount easily to a back wall or on a DIN rail.
 The new I/O modules include:
-- EXM-18 serial/parallel I/O with one RS-232 or RS-422 serial port and one standard PC parallel port (LPT1) for connecting to printers.
-- EXM-19 digital I/O featuring 24 or 48 line digital I/O lines using one or two 8255 components for automated equipment control.
-- EXM-20 16-channel A/D module with single 12-bit analog to digital converter for input of analog signals. Compatible with MetraByte(TM) PC/AT add-in card.
-- EXM-21 two-channel D/A card, a digital to analog converter with 12-bit resolution also for analog signal output from an embedded PC. Compatible with MetraByte DAC-02 PC/AT add-in card.
