RADISSON HOTELS INTERNATIONAL AND VISA U.S.A. UNVEIL
WORLD'S FIRST ON-LINE FREQUENCY PROGRAM FOR TRAVEL AGENTS
CAIRO, Egypt, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Radisson Hotels International, in cooperation with Visa U.S.A., today announced a comprehensive new incentive program for travel agents featuring a variety of merchandise and travel rewards which can be earned automatically by front-line travel agents in return for booking reservations at Radisson Hotels worldwide.
Radisson Hotels International is the first company in the travel industry to offer such a far-reaching on-line "frequency" program which is focused on travel agents and patterned after the airline industry frequent flyer programs.
The program, called "Look to Book," utilizes advanced technology available through the Computerized Reservation Systems (CRS) used by travel agents worldwide to book hotel reservations. This technology allows a paperless credit to be issued to individual agents every time they book a Radisson hotel. The amount of points credited to the travel agent will be doubled if bookings are confirmed with a Visa card.
The "Look to Book" program for travel agents was unveiled in a special news conference today at the 1992 American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) World Congress in Cairo.
Tom Storey, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Radisson Hotels International, presented details of the program, stating that it represented a breakthrough marketing concept by offering tangible rewards directly to front-line travel agents. Storey was joined by Thomas C. Edwards, vice president of Travel and Entertainment Marketing, Visa U.S.A.
"Travel agents have been a major focus of our worldwide marketing strategy during the 1990s, and we are very excited to announce this innovative program as the latest demonstration of Radisson's commitment to this industry," Storey said. "The 'Look to Book' program offers a means for us to reward front-line travel agents for booking Radisson hotels since they are a significant partner in the continuing success of Radisson's worldwide organization," he added.
"Through innovative programs like the 'Look to Book' promotion with Radisson, Visa is able to reward the many travel professionals who are helping us because the preferred card for travel," said Edwards. "Unlike our competition, Visa works as a true partner with travel agents to help build their business and profits. Visa demonstrates this commitment through our ongoing involvement with ASTA educational programs, as a leading sponsor of the World Travel Congress and by developing materials such as Visa's new 'Tips for Travel Agents' desktop guide to help reduce chargebacks and exposure to fraud," he added.
The "Look to Book" program allows individual travel agents to automatically and electronically accumulate award points at the rate of 10 points for every dollar booked in a Radisson hotel. Agents are eligible to enroll and earn points in the program by simply booking a room night at Radisson through any CRS and following the instructions displayed. Also, members will be advised of their account data including current points and year-to-date points any time they book Radisson through the CRS system.
Program awards include a variety of upgraded and free travel services from Radisson Hotels International and its partner companies plus deluxe brand-name merchandise such as electronics, sporting goods and gift items. Travel awards include free nights, weekends, week-long vacations or Visa Travelers Cheques depending on the number of points accumulated.
The official awards schedule will be available Nov. 1. It is designed to be very lucrative for agents. For example, an agent could choose a free week at a premier Radisson Sierra Plaza Hotel in Mexico or a portable JVC CD player by completing approximately eight Radisson bookings per month for a year.
By completing approximately 30 Radisson bookings per month for a year, an agent could earn a seven-day trip to one of the premier Radisson Edwardian Hotels of London including airfare or a VHS lightweight camcorder. The top prize in the award schedule is a week- long cruise for two aboard the spectacular SSC Radisson Diamond, the world's first twin-hull luxury cruise ship.
Points can be earned by travel agents worldwide through CRS systems and the number of points is doubled by confirming the booking with a Visa card. Agents will redeem points by calling a program awards center at a special toll-free number.
To mark the introduction of "Look to Book," Storey and Edwards also announced that Radisson Hotels International and Visa U.S.A. will sponsor a special sweepstakes. Agents enrolling in "Look to Book" between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31 will be eligible to win a grand prize of $15,000 in Visa Travelers Cheques and five-day cruise on the Radisson Diamond.
"By booking Radisson hotels, agents can now earn points in the travel industry's only frequency program for travel agents and also be entered into this exciting sweepstakes," Storey said. "In addition, the agency client will enjoy the superior hospitality services and facilities offered by Radisson hotels worldwide. This is a win-win program for everyone," he added.
Radisson Hotels International operates, manages and franchises deluxe plaza hotels, hotels, all-suite hotels, inns and resorts around the world. The company also includes the SSC Radisson Diamond, the world's first twin-hull luxury cruise ship featuring design technology of the 21st century.
