RADIATION SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES TWO CONTRACTS TOTALLING $1.75 MILLION
INITIAL VALUE; COMPANY CITES 'STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE'
STERLING, Va., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Radiation Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: RADS) today announced that it has been awarded two new contracts with an initial total value of $1.75 million. Company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard E. Thomas said both contracts were "strategically important."
The company said Parker Communications Inc. has awarded it a contract to provide, install and integrate 125 2.4-meter antenna systems at supermarkets throughout the country. The company said that the antenna systems will be for a state-of-the art point-of- purchase advertising network currently being installed in Delchamps supermarkets which are predominantly located in the Southern United States. Ten test sites have already been installed and are operational. The system uses satellite transmissions and custom computerized full-color graphics to broadcast advertising messages on 27-inch color television monitors located throughout the store.
"Since our first involvement with the Channel One system, we have been convinced that there will be a proliferation of private networks to economically deliver advertising, educational and other communications to targeted audiences, and we have positioned Radiation Systems to capitalize on that growth," Thomas said. "This contract helps validate the legitimacy of our efforts." Thomas said the first phase of the contract is valued at approximately $1.25 million.
Thomas also said that the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) has awarded it a contract for the turnkey supply of an 11-meter satellite receive-only earth station. The system, to be installed in England, is valued at over $500,000. Thomas said it was also "strategically important" because "it provides us a prestigious platform to pursue more business with the growing satellite broadcast market in Europe. It is also the first full earth station systems contract to be awarded to CSA Antenna Systems Division, the European company we acquired last year." He said that CSA will not only be the prime contractor to the BBC, but it will also carry out the on-site installation and commissioning of the total system in the United Kingdom.
Radiation Systems Inc. designs, manufactures and installs a broad range of antenna turnkey systems and components for radar, air traffic control, tactical military, satellite communications, terrestrial microwave and broadcast and other specialized uses throughout the world.
