RAD Secures New Beachhead for T1/E1 Global Connectivity.

MAHWAH, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 1998--

Partners with AT&T to Offer E1 Domestic Access Service;

Offers Compressed Voice Solutions with SNMP Management

RAD Data Communications announced a new global carrier option for integrated T1/E1 domestic access. With the introduction of the IMX-2T1/E1 inverse muxing solution, RAD now enables carriers to provide direct, low-cost connection to E1 circuits overseas without loss of bandwidth converting from T1 circuits. This solution is one of the first for US carriers; it satisfies multinational corporations' need to integrate US networks with global E1 pipes, delivering higher speeds for voice, video and data.

RAD's first delivery of domestic E1 access is in partnership with AT&T. Together, the companies are providing a direct T1 to E1 connection to multinational customers requiring links to overseas AT&T E1 circuits. RAD's contribution is a carrier-class inverse muxing solution optimized for price/performance. The solution -- pioneering in the carrier community -- gives AT&T and its customers full utilization of 31 DS-0 channels on an international E1 circuit.

"Many Fortune 500 companies today require the full use of an E1 pipeline," said Bob Mavretich, director of carrier sales at RAD Data Communications (Mahwah, NJ). "With our solution, carriers can now use existing T1infrastructure in the US and deliver a full E1 to a multinational customer, and there's no loss of bandwidth on the E1." Before, seven DS-0s were sacrificed while converting 24 channel T1 to 31 channel international E1. Now, carriers can give customers a very cost effective way to pick up the additional 7 channels of bandwidth, obtain additional data services and maximize their application.

"Many multinational customers are moving to international E1circuits because of increasing bandwidth demands," said Lucy Tscherne, international product manager, global transport services, AT&T. "AT&T chose RAD for this application because of its proven reputation for technical excellence and customer support. The inverse muxing solution provides the best value in terms of quality, performance, pricing and feature enhancements."

The RAD IMX-2T1/E1 maps an E1 signal onto 2 T1 local channels provided by the local access supplier, delivering an E1 signal to the AT&T point of presence (POP) for transport overseas. AT&T and RAD can deliver E1 access from a multinational customer's location in the US to E1 circuits internationally. The solution allows customers to connect to an E1 circuit where access suppliers can't deliver local E1 access, according to AT&T.

The RAD IMX-2T1/E1 is now available at a price of $7000. The solution is one element in RAD's global vision for carrier and enterprise T1/E1 integration. Like all elements offered in RAD's T1/E1 systems solutions, the IMX-2T1/E1 is managed and controlled with SNMP network management, RADview, a total management and performance analysis solution running over HPOV.

The RADview-HPOV SNMP Management System enables complete monitoring and control of WANs from a central management station. The central management station can manage several local or remote networks interconnected via bridges, routers, multiplexers and other WAN access devices. This easy-to-use GUI interface system provides direct on-line supervision, configuration and diagnostics.
