R.R. DONNELLEY TO PRINT SUNDAY NEWSPAPER COUPONS FOR NEWS AMERICA FSI

CHICAGO, April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- R.R. Donnelley and Sons Company (NYSE: DNY), the world's largest commercial printer, announced today it will produce a significant percentage of News America FSI, Inc.'s newspaper coupon programs -- known as free-standing inserts (FSIs) -- beginning in September, under a five-year agreement with the News Corporation Ltd. division.
News America FSI distributes free-standing inserts to 55 million homes every week via 390 Sunday newspapers, reaching 58 percent of all U.S. households. FSIs are cooperative programs of product coupons representing approximately 80 percent of the total coupon distribution in the United States.
"Consumer products marketers are spending more on promotional activities as opposed to traditional advertising," acknowledged Edward E. Lane, president of R.R. Donnelley's Magazine Group. "To take advantage of this opportunity, we've decided to service the coupon promotion business."
R.R. Donnelley is installing new printing presses in its South Daytona, Fla. and Los Angeles plants and adding 200 employees this fall. "Los Angeles' proximity is advantageous," added Lane, "because, in addition to lowering distribution costs, it will give our customer more time to sell coupon space."
"This new agreement allows News America to continue to tighten our production lead time, thereby giving us the opportunity to respond to our clients' needs," said Paul V. Carlucci, president of News America FSI.
R.R. Donnelley is the world's foremost printer of inserts, catalogs, books, directories, computer documentation, financial printing and magazines, including the News Corporation's "TV Guide". Founded in Chicago in 1864, the company employs more than 30,000 persons and operates facilities in more than 140 locations in North America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.
