 CHICAGO, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company,

(NYSE: DNY) the world's largest printer, has signed an agreement to purchase Combined Communication Services, Inc. (CCS), a privately held trade magazine printer based in Lisle, Ill.
"Through the years we've printed general-interest magazines, mass- market newsweeklies, regional monthlies and Sunday newspaper magazines," said Edward E. Lane, president of R.R. Donnelley's Magazine Group. "We are excited about adding capabilities dedicated to produce trade publications. Our new CCS subsidiary will allow us to diversify and serve a broader range of publishers."
Robert Sanderson, currently president of CCS, will become a vice president of sales and marketing for R.R. Donnelley. Sanderson's father, Lester, founded CCS in 1946 as Blackhawk Engraving Co. in Oregon, Ill. Today, CCS employs approximately 450 people who manufacture more than 200 special-interest, business and association magazines from a prepress facility in Oregon, Ill., and a printing plant in Mendota, Ill.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed; the acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter, following government review. R.R. Donnelley had announced its option to purchase CCS in July, 1991.
R.R. Donnelley is the world's foremost provider of printing and related services, manufacturing magazines, catalogs, newspaper advertising inserts, books, directories, computer documentation and financial printing.
