 R.P. SCHERER TO BUILD NEW FACILITY IN AUSTRALIA
 TROY, Mich., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- R.P. Scherer Corporation


(NYSE: SHR) announced today that it will build a new state-of-the-art facility, which will cost approximately $17 million, for its Asian operating units at Chelsea Heights in southeastern Melbourne, Australia.
 The new plant, being built to manufacture soft gelatin capsules ("softgels"), will be a center of excellence for training, manufacturing, technical backup and quality assurance. In this role, the Australian operations will act as supplier of research and development and engineering services to other Scherer facilities in Korea and Japan.
 Mr. Barrie Webb, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of R.P. Scherer Holdings Pty. Ltd., said, "The technology will be state-of- the-art and the systems will be world's best practice. We are very aggressive in research and development and we see very real opportunities for ourselves in Asia in the future. This will ensure that we are able to produce the highest quality products and services for our clients.
