 R.O.C. TAIWAN FUND REPORTS 1991 FINANCIAL HIGHLIGHTS
 NEW YORK, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The R.O.C. Taiwan Fund (NYSE: ROC), a diversified closed-end investment company registered in the United States, today announced its performance for the year ended Dec. 31, 1991.
 On Dec. 31, 1991 the fund's total net assets were $244,072,754 or a net asset value per share of $9.53 based on 25,612,932 shares outstanding. This compares with 1990 total net assets of $235,735,816 or a net asset value per share of $9.15 based on 25,776,002 shares outstanding.

 On Jan. 10, 1992, the fund paid a dividend in the amount of $0.75 per share. The dividend, which was paid entirely in cash and was not eligible for reinvestment pursuant to the fund's dividend reinvestment plan, represented a distribution from the fund's accumulated undistributed net profits from the sale of securities, or capital gains, calculated according to U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
 In July of 1991, the fund announced that its board of trustees authorized the fund to repurchase up to $10 million worth of its shares from time to time pursuant to a repurchase program complying with the provisions of Rule 10b-18 under the Securities Exchange Act. The fund repurchased 165,500 of its own shares in the fourth quarter and a total of 170,200 shares for the 1991 year. Under the plan, the fund may repurchase additional shares in the future when the fund's shares are selling on the New York Stock Exchange at a discount to net asset value.
 The R.O.C. Taiwan Fund is the oldest and largest fund organized for investment in securities of R.O.C. issuers by non-R.O.C. investors. The fund's investment adviser and manager is International Investment Trust Company Limited, the first of four currently authorized securities investment trust enterprises formed to raise and manage trust funds for investment in R.O.C. securities.
