Quicken Redefines Personal Finance with the Easiest, Most Powerful

Way to Manage Finances Across the Desktop and Web

In an effort to help consumers take control of their finances and alleviate the related issues of the never-ending time crunch, lack of financial confidence and billions of dollars wasted each year, Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ:INTU), the leader in personal and small business finance software, today introduced the new Quicken(R) 2001 for Windows product line.

Through seamless integration with Quicken, TurboTax(R) and Quicken.com(TM), Quicken 2001 redefines the personal finance category to provide consumers with the ability to better manage all the key areas of their finances with access from anywhere via the Web.

Quicken 2001 includes a variety of new features and enhancements designed to make it easier than ever for consumers to organize, manage and access their financial information. By integrating with My Finances on Quicken.com, Quicken 2001 enables users to consolidate their finances and manage them from the desktop or the Web. From banking and bills to investing and taxes, Quicken 2001 provides a comprehensive set of tools users need to plan, monitor and manage their financial lives and complete financial tasks quickly and easily.

"Consumers are working harder than ever to make the most of their money, but many lack the time or confidence to manage their finances effectively. Intuit's mission is to address these top customer problems by providing a complete financial dashboard that automates tedious tasks, simplifies financial decision-making and offers access at home, at work or while traveling," said Dan Olsen, senior product manager, Intuit. "The number of active Quicken users has grown to more than 18 million customers. Quicken 2001 builds on this popularity to deliver new innovations that enable customers to spend less time on financial chores and more time enjoying their hard-earned money and free time."

Quicken 2001 makes it easier than ever for consumers to better organize and manage all the key areas of their finances -including investing, banking and bills, and taxes - all in one place. Virtually every area of Quicken 2001 Deluxe has been improved to help users more easily save time and money.

Ease of Use

The average consumer spends 155 hours a year - or 350 days over a lifetime -managing their personal finances(1), yet more than 70 percent have had no instruction or help in learning to manage their finances(2). Quicken 2001's streamlined user interface helps consumers easily organize their finances while providing proactive insights and alerts. Quicken 2001 continues to provide the fastest, most flexible user interface for completing financial tasks with the new Toolbar, which provides single-click access to a user's favorite features.

Quicken's integration with My Finances on Quicken.com enables consumers to manage their important investment, bills and account balance information from any PC with Internet access.

Investing

More than 80 percent of investors consider themselves to be beginners(3). Now more than ever, Quicken 2001 provides the best solution for helping consumers monitor and evaluate their investment portfolio so they can make smart financial decisions.

With Quicken 2001's improved Portfolio Export to Quicken.com and improved Investment Alerts, users can have up-to-date information whether they are at home, work or traveling. And now users can see the identical Quicken portfolio on Quicken.com. The improved Portfolio View includes more than 50 new investment metrics such as security fundamentals (e.g., P/E and 52-week high and low) and performance measures (e.g., rates of return over 1, 3 and 5 years). And now it's easier than ever to make informed decisions with the improved Asset Allocation feature, which shows consumers estimated risk and return information to help them ensure their investments are in line with their goals.

To help consumers more confidently invest their 401(k), Intuit introduced the Quicken 401k Advisor via Quicken.com, which can provide each user with fund-specific recommendations based on the funds in their company's plan and their personal situation and goals. Because the Quicken 401k Advisor knows the fund information and matching policies for more than 1,100 corporations, 40 state governments and 30 IRA providers, users can get this free Web-based advice with minimal data entry. In addition, consumers can now more easily manage their 401(k) in Quicken with improved 401(k) Tracking and the new 401(k) Download feature, which allows users to download their 401(k) information - including holdings, transactions, total balance and vested balance - from Prudential Retirement Services and other financial institutions (as they become available).

Banking & Bills

The average American wastes well over $1,000 a year due to financial mismanagement(4). The average American pays 17 bills per month(5), and Americans squandered a total of $5.6 billion in bounced check charges in 1999(6). With Quicken 2001's new Smart Reconcile, Missed Bill Reminder and improved Online Statement Download features, staying on top of bills and account balances from anywhere has never been easier.

Through Quicken 2001's improved Online Banking Setup, users can get online and start banking faster than ever before. The new Smart Reconcile feature keeps checkbooks balanced and the new Missed Bill Reminder feature identifies recurring payments and prompts users to set them up as bills so they avoid missing bills. The improved Online Statement Download feature makes it easier than ever to preview and accept transactions that have been downloaded from more than 1,400 banks, credit cards and investment companies. And now users can synchronize their account balances and recent transactions with participating financial institutions the My Finances page on Quicken.com as well as their reminders and upcoming bills.

Taxes

Americans over-withhold approximately $2 billion in taxes each year(7) and the average consumer spends 6.7 hours manually calculating state and federal taxes(8). Time and money not well spent. With Quicken 2001's improved tax tools, consumers can take more control of their tax situation.

With the improved transfer of Quicken data to TurboTax, users can transfer their Quicken data to TurboTax with greater flexibility, previewing the data and selecting the categories they want to import into TurboTax. The improved Tax Planner feature makes it easier for people to see if they are over- or under-withholding and understand the details behind each tax line item. The new feature also has a streamlined user interface that is easier to use and the tax data has been updated.

The improved Capital Gains Estimator is now integrated with the user's year-to-date tax information from the Tax Planner to more accurately estimate the year-end tax impact of capital gains. The Capital Gains Estimator can now also handle losses, which makes it easier for users to minimize taxes when selling their stocks and mutual funds and is especially useful for year-end tax planning.

Optional Integrated Services

Quicken 2001 leverages the Internet to bring users Integrated Postage that works with Stamps.com and allows them to purchase Internet postage and integrate it with their Quicken address book to print postage for invoices, estimates, checks, envelopes and labels. Quicken 2001 also introduces Quicken Online Backup, which works with SkyDesk to conveniently provide a reliable and affordable backup solution. Now users can easily backup their Quicken data to a safe, remote location so they avoid worrying about losing their valuable financial records.

Quicken 2001 Home & Business for Windows

Quicken Home & Business combines all of the features in Quicken 2001 Deluxe with added tools to help users better manage their business and personal finances all in one place. New and improved features include the ability to generate Estimates, which can be saved as templates and easily converted to invoices. The Job Tracking feature allows businesses to track multiple jobs or projects performed for the same customer. And HTML Invoices allow users to send their invoices and estimates via e-mail in HTML format so they remain consistent and professional in appearance.

The optional QuickPayroll(TM) service enables users to take care of all their payroll needs including calculating the proper withholding, printing paychecks and downloading the latest tax tables and federal forms all with one integrated service (separate service fees apply).
