QuickTime unveils software player for BlackBerry devices.

A software player which can be downloaded to BlackBerry handsets has been unveiled by QuickTime, a multimedia software architecture, enabling playback for Apple QuickTime movie files.

The QuickPlayer for BlackBerry application offers streamed audiocasts from media companies and providers such as ABC News, Gaiam, Clear Channel, The Wall Street Journal, Westwood One, and

BlackBerry users will, for the first time, be able to experience audiocasts without having to wait for a download, with options such as the ability to create 'My Channels' to track audiocasts of interest to the user. Channels including sports, news and entertainment are updated regularly, ensuring users are kept up to date and informed.

QuickPlay Media manages all components of the service, such as subscription management, content management, content delivery and billing, through the QuickPlay Mobile Media Platform (MMP).

QuickPlay Media, a member of the BlackBerry ISV Alliance Program, combined its own streaming technology with advanced audio codecs supported in the BlackBerry 8700 Series, Pearl and 7130 Series devices, to develop the player.
