Q HOW long does it take for sago trees to grow? Many were blown down in storms in Indonesia and Malaysia a few years ago and sago disappeared from shop shelves.

A THE feather-leaved sago palm tree is native to swampy areas of Malaysia and Polynesia. It's thick trunk contains sago, a starch used in foodstuffs. The sago grows for 15 years, flowers once and then dies when the fruit ripens. It can reach a height of 30ft.
