THE most desirable car in showbiz circles is a black Range Rover 4.6 HSE. It's the chosen transport of Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, George Michael, Guy Ritchie, Madonna, David Beckham (when he's not driving something flashier) and Robbie Williams. The soon-to-be-replaced seven-year-old design is enjoying record sales and buoyant used prices - as long as it's black.POLICE in Pennsylvania, angry over low wages, issued 400 parking tickets in a single night to cars left more than from the kerb. The local mayor has apologised and cancelled the tickets, saying that the parking blitz was due to bad blood between the police and City Hall.

A DOZY car thief in Virginia was thrown back in jail half an hour after he was released on parole. Richard Houston left Prince William County jail - and immediately stole a guard's pick-up which was parked outside.

A TEXAS woman paralysed in an accident involving a Ford Explorer and Firestone tyres has reached an out-of-court settlement of $30million. One of the first of a potential 150 court actions against Ford and Firestone, experts predict the two companies could ultimately face a bill of more than one billion dollars.
