Quentin Willson's motoring column: Having a bad spell.

Byline: Quentin Willson

GLANCING through a column of ads for cherished registration numbers, I can only come to the conclusion that literacy standards in this country are much worse than anybody dares to believe.

Either that, or the people trying to peddle posh plates are insane. First there's the ad for G1 SYT, which the owner is trying to persuade us suggests "GIVE ME IT" and is worth pounds 5,000.

Same with P14 YAH. The vendor would have us believe this particular potty plate spells "PLAYER", adding a hair-raising price tag of pounds 12,000 as a postscript.

I wonder whether these registration numbers ever sell for the ridiculous prices asked. Indeed, if they sell at all. I say RUB815H to the lot of them.
