Quaker Oats Co. Expands Breakfast Variety Via Aunt Jemima; Boosts OvenStuffs, Pizza

The Quaker Oats Co. has unveiled a number of new products and line extensions under its Aunt Jemima, OvenStuffs and Celeste brands. The items were developed, according to a spokesman for the Chicago-headquartered outfit, "to meet ever-increasing consumer needs for convenience, variety and value -- especially in these recessionary times."

Joining the Aunt Jemima frozen breakfast range are: Morning Bites, a 15-ounce variety package of 12 bite-size mini waffles, four silver-dollar pancakes and four french toast sticks; Cinnamon Lovers combo pack, another 15-ounce offering featuring four cinnamon waffles and four cinnamon french toast slices; Waffle Lovers combo pack with six blueberry-flavored and six buttermilk homestyle waffles; Breakfast Choice variety pack with waffles, french toast and pancakes.

"We have recognized the consumer's desire to mix and match among frozen breakfast items," said Carol Loitman, Aunt Jemima brand manager. "With these products our aim is to increase usage among current heavy frozen breakfast users and to extend category reach to light users."

Joining the OvenStuffs frozen sandwich lineup are two new flavors: turkey, cheddar and bacon turnover, and chicken turnover with country vegetables. Two 4.75-ounce units are packed per carton.

On the pizza front, a new 12-inch, 17.75-ounce version of the Celeste Four-Cheese Pizza-For-One has been introduced to six USA markets including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Philadelphia.

"The only frozen pizza with mozzarella, provolone, romano and parmesan cheeses, its value becomes apparent in the cost ratio: $2.71 per pound versus $9 a pound for restaurant pizza," noted Joe Davis, brand manager.
