Qatar research fund invites grants submissions.

Manama: The Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), a member of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, has launched the sixth grant application process for its competitive project funding initiative, the National Priorities Research Programme (NPRP).

Designed to help develop human capital in Qatar, the NPRP is open to both Qatari and non-Qatari researchers from all disciplines irrespective of whether they reside in Qatar or overseas.

According to organisers, 567 projects from 160 institutions globally have received grants to date. These initiatives have helped advance scientific innovation nationally and improved Qatar's position within the global academic community, they said.

The programme helped attract some of the world's most capable experts and innovators to the region and the sixth cycle of NPRP grants will continue to bolster a culture of research.

To launch the new round of submissions, QNRF will hold two public information sessions in Qatar on September 24 and broadcast two webinars for the convenience of international applicants based in different time zones.

The presentations, hosted by a panel of QNRF experts, will outline the application process by detailing current policies and guidelines which will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Final proposals for online applications will have to be submitted by December 11.

Organisers said that the timeframe for the research-based proposals must be between one to three years and directly support QNRF's mandate to help boost the nation's transition to a knowledge-based economy.
