Qatar Sports Club end Al Arabi's winning streak.

Tribune News Network DOHA Qatar Sports Club put an end to Qatar Basketball Federation League winning streak of Al Arabi Club as guard Baden Jaxen and centre Mohamed Yousuf Mohamed held their nerves and helped their team pull off a 73-72 thriller in overtime on Tuesday. Earlier in a roller-coster match, Al Wakrah Club dazzled late and unleashed a 24-0 run to crush Al Ahli Club 92-70. At the Al Gharafa Club Indoor Hall, the match between the seven times winners appeared to be going the Qatar Sports Club way when they moved five points clear with 1:12 left in the clock. Al Arabi Club, unbeaten after four matches, got a crucial one-point lead as only 10 seconds remained. The new turnaround came with forward Nicholas Stover sinking a trey and guard William Byrd nailing a layup after Gueye Momar Talla could get only one of the two freee throws in. Then off the Qatar Sports Club surge, Talla fouled on Jaxen, who put away both the offers to wrap up their fourth victory in five clashes. Al Arabi Club had a chance to settle the match even in the regulation time. However Tall could not keep his nerves and missed one of the two free throws, which forced the game into the extra time with the scores level at 62-62. Though Al Arabi Club led about 30 minutes, the game saw the teams sharing the lead 14 times, besides being tied on four occasions. Mohamed contributed 21 points and collected 17 rebounds, Jaxen netted 18 and Brandan Kearney added 14 for the winners. Al Arabi Club had Stover getting 19 points and 13 rebounds, Talla had 15 points, Byrd had a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Khalid Suliman Abdi chipped in 12. Wakrah on hot run With only four points separating the two at the interval (47-43), the former tied the scores 70-70 through point guard Marcus Johnson's cool conversions of free throws when he drew a foul from guard Luka Milojevic with five minutes left. It was followed by another personal foul by forward Nenad Zivchevic on guard Earnest Lee Ross Jr. He also accepted the gifts and sank both the go-ahead shots from the charity stripe. With Al Ahli being reduced to a mere spectator, Al Wakrah reeled off another 18 points to seal the superb victory through a Ross layup. The match had the lead changing hands 21 times and both were knotted on seven occasions. However in the final five minutes, the surge fetched Al Wakrah a third victory in five games. For Al Ahli, it was the fourth setback in five matches. Johnson led the winners with 30 points, Ross gained 23 and small forward Adamu Saaka secured 22, while power forward Erfan Ali Saeed posted a fine double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Ndoye Elhadj Seydou topped the scoring for Al Ahli Club with 16 points and point guard Abdulrahman al Muftah earned 15 points. Zivchevic and Milojevic notched 13 each, while 221-cm centre Nemanja Besovic recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds.
