Qatar : INFRASTRUCTURE works finished at The Pearl Qatar.
The Doha project has undergone its fair share of challenges from the time its construction started in 2004, however master developer United Development Company (UDC) has confirmed 100% of the infrastructure of the man-made island, as well as the Porto Arabia, Qanat Quartier and Medina Centrale districts, is finished.
UDC is functioning next to 15 other developers.
A UDC spokesman said, We have overcome most challenges that had affected the real estate market globally, including the global financial crisis of recent years .
True, there were delays, but all infrastructure work at The Pearl-Qatar has been completed.
The first residents moved on to the island in 2009 and there are now around 12,000 people living there.
There are at present approximately 200 restaurants and retail units, with more due to open soon.
The Pearl-Qatar spans approximately 4mn m2 and is the first land in Qatar to be available for freehold ownership by foreign nationals.
It has the world s biggest district cooling plant in operations. Qatar Cool is able to provide 130,000 tons of refrigeration and cooling services to all areas of the development.
The name of the island was selected as it is built on one of Qatar's former pearl diving sites, but the state ceased the trade when Japan started selling cheaper pearls.
The project is planned for completion by the end of 2018.
