Qatar, India to hold 3rd defence cooperation meet on Sept 15.

DOHA THE third meeting of Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation (JCDC) between Qatar and India will be held in Doha on September 15 and 16, Indian Ambassador to Qatar HE Sanjiv Arora said on Tuesday.

The ambassador said this while briefing the media about the arrival of two Indian naval ships in Qatar, INS Tabar and INS Aditya.

"In the last one decade, India and Qatar have witnessed steady growth in the defence relation between the two countries. The defence ties between the two countries were further strengthened by the 'Defence Cooperation Agreement' signed between the two countries in November, 2008.

"Besides, the setting up of the 'India-Qatar joint Defence Cooperation Committee' has enhanced coordination in the fields of training, strategic study, conduct of exercises and information sharing," the Indian ambassador said.

"The growing naval cooperation between the two countries is also evident from the biennial naval exercise 'Dimdex' since 2008, which has increased high level visits in addition to cross training of naval officers and port visits by naval ships," the ambassador added.

The two Indian naval ships arrived in Doha on Tuesday on a goodwill visit in an effort to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation with Qatar.

The visiting ships form part of the Indian Navy's Western Fleet under the Western Naval Command in Mumbai.

"The visit is also aimed at further bolstering bilateral ties and reinforcing cooperation in maritime security between India and Qatar," the ambassador said.

The visiting officers of the Indian Navy will be calling on the senior dignitaries and officials of Qatar Emiri navy.

The Qatari naval officers will also come aboard the INS Tabar to exchange views with their Indian counterparts.

The navy officers of the two countries will also hold passex ceremony on September 13.

Four Indian naval ships are on a month-long overseas deployment to the Gulf to engage in naval exercises with friendly regional navies. While two ships arrived in Qatar, the other two INS Mysore and INS Tarkash reached Kuwait on a goodwill visit.

All the four ships are also scheduled to visit UAE and Oman. The four ships will also hold joint military exercises in Oman.
