Qafco marks Global Fertiliser Day.

Tribune News Network Doha In celebration of the Global Fertiliser Day 2017, Qatar Fertiliser Company (Qafco) visited three schools: Mesaieed International School - Primary, Doha Academy, and the Audio Complex School for Girls with the aim of spreading awareness about fertilisers and their essential role in sustaining the growing population among children in Qatar. A total of 360 students received a brief introduction on fertilisers and their uses through a video and a planting demonstration. Global Fertiliser Day, an initiative by the International Fertiliser Association (IFA) Strategic Advisory Team, is celebrated on October 13 every year. It marks the anniversary of Fritz Haber's discovery of ammonia synthesis in 1908, which sowed the seed for the Green Revolution of the early 20th Century. During this time, widespread adoption of agricultural technologies lifted millions out of poverty and famine, allowing the world to grow and develop. Qafco Public Relations and Communications Manager Maryam Mattar said,"Fertilisers can be credited for over half of the world's food supply. The significance of fertilisers has increased in today's world as the population has more than doubled from the early 20th century. This year we marked the Global Fertiliser Day with students from three local schools. I am encouraged by the enthusiasm that the children displayed and hope to raise awareness on fertilisers by involving more stakeholders in the future."
