Qafac expansion plans.

Location: Messaid and Ras Laffan industrial cities, Qatar

Details : Qatar Fuel Additives Company (Qafac) has planned to increase its current production capacity of methanol and MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) in the near future.

It is conducting initial studies to increase its production capacity in its site in Messaid and Ras Laffan industrial cities. This plan will depend on the approval of Qatar Petroleum, as it provides feedstock for its projects. Once it receives feedstock allocation it will proceed towards the execution.

The company has a total production capacity of 1.611 million tons per year, including 918,000 tons per year of methanol and 693,000 ton per year of MTBE.

Qafac started commercial operation in 1999 with a total investment of $600 million. It is a joint venture between Industries Qatar, OPIC Middle East, International Octane and LCY Investments Corporation.
