QVC HITS ITS FASHION STRIDE WITH RECORD SALES; FASHION DAY RACKS UP $8.5 MILLION -- 23 PERCENT AHEAD OF LAST YEAR

WEST CHESTER, Pa., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- QVC (NASDAQ-NMS: QVCN) hit its fashion stride, racking up a record $8.5 million in sales during its 24-hour Fashion Day extravaganza on Wednesday, Aug. 25.
The results represent a 23 percent increase over last year's August Fashion Day.
In announcing the results, Douglas Briggs, QVC's executive vice president-Electronic Retailing, said, "These are terrific numbers. Our first Fashion Day in January 1988 generated some $700,000 in sales. These latest results leave little doubt that we are well on track with our plans of being a real fashion force. Our goal is to offer apparel and accessories that appeal to the widest range of lifestyles and tastes. Viewer response proves we got it right. We plan to do much more of this in the future."
Fashion Day merchandise featured apparel, accessories and footwear and ranged from rugged country casuals and career apparel, to daywear and romantic evening collections. Presentations included merchandise exclusive to QVC, as well as from name designers. Among the collections to debut during Fashion Day was Liz Claiborne's successful First Issue label.
The top-selling item was a hand-loomed sweater by Jennifer Reed. Available to QVC viewers at $39.98, more than 35,000 units were sold in the 24-hour period.
QVC, the nation's largest cable shopping channel, is transmitted live, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It currently reaches more than 44 million homes via cable, and 3 million homes with satellite dishes from coast to coast.
