QUOTRON INTRODUCES ADVANTAGE AE, A COMPREHENSIVE, INTEGRATED
FINANCIAL SYSTEM FOR THE RETAIL BROKERAGE MARKET
NEW YORK, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Quotron Systems, Inc. today introduced Advantage AE(SM), its sophisticated new financial information system for the retail brokerage market. Advantage AE marks a significant departure from Quotron's previous systems, the propriety QUOTRON 800(TM) and QUOTRON 1000(TM), because it runs entirely on industry-standard hardware. In addition, Quotron services and dynamic market data are delivered in different windows on the same screen in the Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) environment.
"Advantage AE greatly increases productivity by enabling brokers to view multiple markets and perform multiple tasks simultaneously instead of paging through different services," said Alan Weiss, vice president of sales and marketing in Quotron. "Its use of IBM hardware connected via a Local Area Network (LAN) makes Advantage AE not only a very powerful and reliable system, but also a cost-effective one that can accommodate a firm's broad range of computing needs."
The first Quotron system to be LAN-compatible, Advantage AE runs on the IBM(R) RISC System/6000(SM) at the server level and the IBM PS/2(R) Model 56 SX or SLC (or other IBM PS/2s) at the workstation level. Based on Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC) technology, the RS/6000 is able to execute multiple instruction sets in each cycle, making it ideal to process the large volumes of market data transmitted over the Quotron network. The IBM RS/6000 utilizes AIX(R), IBM's version of UNIX(R) providing an open environment in which a firm can develop its own custom applications compatible with Advantage AE.
Flexibility is an important feature of Advantage AE. Users can define not only hot keys, but also color, font size and default start-up screens. And the firm has the flexibility to choose from among three different packages of windows and services for each workstation to meet the different needs of its staff.
Advantage AE consists of a variety of different windows, including Dynamic Quote, Monitor and News windows and a pre-formatted Financial Summary window for viewing critical real-time market data. The Dynamic Quote and Monitor windows are similar to Quotron's Full Quote and Enhanced Monitor services but feature several key enhancements. For example, in the Dynamic Quote window, different colors highlight up and down ticks, both for the last price and for the net change for the day. The Monitor window now lets users create monitor lists consisting of a virtually unlimited number of securities. The user can create an unlimited number of these lists, up to ten of which can be displayed at one time in different windows on the same screen.
Word Processing and Analytics windows feature a choice of various popular off-the-shelf Windows applications such as Microsoft Word (TM) and Excel(TM). Dynamic market data from the extensive Quotron network can easily be incorporated into these applications using Microsoft Windows' powerful Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) feature and Quotron- supplied macros.
The Quotron Advantage Services(TM) (QAS) window provides access to many Quotron services such as options analytics as well as a new, enhanced graphing service. Similar in appearance to the familiar Quotron "A-Page," this window also features new on-screen help facilities such as a pop-up window providing options codes.
The account window gives a broker access to client account information and can feature either the Quotron Broker Support System(TM), Broker's Notebook(TM) or another portfolio management package running on a separate host computer. The broker can watch a client's portfolio change in value in this window while continuing to track news headlines and financial statistics in other windows elsewhere on the screen.
The Quotron Navigator window serves as an icon-based gateway from which the user can quickly and easily access other windows by clicking the mouse on a graphical icon. In this window, users can select their own hot keys -- single keystrokes or keystroke combinations that can also be used to access the other windows.
All installation, maintenance and ongoing customer support services for Advantage AE are provided through the new IBM-staffed Quotron Support Center. This state-of-the-art facility was established as part of an important alliance formed between Quotron and IBM in December of 1991 with the aim of providing open systems and top-quality service to Quotron customers.
