QUIKTRIP PULLS BUTANE LIGHTER FUEL FROM STORES

TULSA, Okla., March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Gasoline/convenience retailer QuikTrip Corp. announced today they are removing butane lighter fuel from their stores. The announcement today follows the company's learning last week of a dangerous trend among teens to abuse the product by inhaling the fumes.
The deadly craze, called "huffing," killed a Broken Arrow, Okla. teen last year. QuikTrip learned of the abuse just days ago, according to QuikTrip spokesperson Wyatt Phillips.
"QuikTrip is a responsible retailer," said Phillips. "We are committed to doing the right thing.
"We think what has happened is tragic and we're working as quickly as possible to remove butane from the stores."
QuikTrip also announced they plan to work with law enforcement officials to keep informed of products that are abused, according to Phillips.
QuikTrip operates 300 stores in northeastern Oklahoma, Kansas City, Wichita, Iowa, St. Louis, and Atlanta.
