QUESTAR PIPELINE RECEIVES GO-AHEAD ON CLAY BASIN STORAGE EXPANSION

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- On Nov. 16, Questar Pipeline Co. (NYSE: STR) received a final order from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) granting authority to expand the Clay Basin underground storage facility's capacity from 100 billion cubic feet (Bcf) to 110 Bcf.
The reservoir, located in northeastern Utah, will hold 46.3 Bcf of working gas and 63.7 Bcf of cushion gas. Maximum deliverability will increase from 575 million cubic feet (MMcf) per day to more than 800 MMcf per day in 1995-96.
"This expansion allows us to meet the growing market demand for storage services," said A.J. Marushack, president and chief executive officer of Questar Pipeline. "Clay Basin is centrally located in relationship to gas supplies and various markets for natural gas. With the increased deliverability, the reservoir becomes even more valuable to Questar Pipeline and its customers."
Questar Pipeline announced its intention to proceed with the $50 million expansion after conducting an open season from Jan. 15 to Feb. 12, 1993.
Questar Pipeline filed June 2 with the FERC to expand the reservoir to 110 Bcf to provide the additional service requested by customers during the open season.
Construction will begin shortly to install three 6,500-horsepower turbine compressors at the site. The company expects to begin injecting the additional gas into storage during the second quarter of 1994.
Questar Pipeline is a subsidiary of Questar Corp., a Salt Lake City- based integrated natural gas company. Questar Pipeline engages in natural gas gathering, storage and transmission activities through a pipeline system in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.
