QUEEN ISN'T VERY BRIGHT; BIGMOUTH TV HISTORIAN'S SHOCKING INSULT Starkey says Her Maj is just like a housewife and more interested in gin and Dubonnet than fine art.
OUTSPOKEN telly historian David Starkey has launched an astonishing attack on the Queen - branding her a poorly educated "housewife".
He claimed Her Majesty was more interested in her gin and Dubonnet than the art when he showed her round an exhibition.
Starkey, 62, even said her attitude to culture was similar to that of Hitler's chief spin doctor Joseph Goebbels.
The Cambridge professor - handed his CBE by the Queen earlier this year - also criticised her for the "absence of any kind of, to be blunt, serious education".
Starkey's shocking insults come as his Channel 4 series Monarchy: The Windsors ends on Boxing Day.
He recalled how he was showing the Queen round an exhibition on Elizabeth I when she noticed a painting from her own collection.
"She knew her own possessions," said Starkey. "She was like a housewife who'd been left them."
The historian, who has made a fortune from royal books and documentaries, said: "I think she's got elements a bit like Goebbels in her attitude to culture.
"You remember: 'Every time I hear theword culture I reach for my revolver.' I think the Queen reaches for her mask."
Starkey's remarks angered pro-monarchy celebrities.
England cricket legend Ian Botham, knighted by the Queen, said: "Sadly, she is an easy target for parasites. She has no comeback."
Buckingham Palace said diplomatically: "Everyone is entitled to their opinion and we do not comment on personal opinions."
