QUALITY LEADERSHIP CENTER AT CARLSON SCHOOL RECEIVES MAJOR GIFT FROM TARGET STORES

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The newly founded Quality Leadership Center at the Carlson School of Management received a lead gift of $120,000 today from Target, Dayton's, and the Dayton-Hudson Foundation.
Executives from 18 companies, including Target Store parent Dayton- Hudson Corporation, participated in designing the center to best address quality management needs in education and in the business world.
A giant check was presented by Target Store representatives to the center's steering committee Wednesday afternoon.
The newly founded Quality Leadership Center will conduct research and disseminate leading-edge knowledge of quality management practices to faculty, students, business and government. The center will serve faculty and students university-wide.
"The Twin Cities business community fully understands the importance and complex nature surrounding quality issues," stated Quality Leadership Center Director and Carlson School Professor Roger Schroeder. "We're glad to say that Target Stores backed up that interest with a quality gift!"
Target's gift is a three year commitment of $40,000 per year.
In addition to research and teaching quality, the center will also provide extensive executive development outreach to bring quality issues directly to the business community.
Research topics of highest interest to local companies include: how to change business culture through leadership, how to transform corporations into "learning organizations" so as to learn from mistakes, finding new review and reward systems, and how to create measures for employee and customer satisfaction that have as much weight as financial measures.
The other companies involved in shaping the Quality Leadership Center include: Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cargill, Carlson Companies, Donaldson Company, Group Health, Honeywell, IBM, IDS, Medtronic, Peat Marwick, Pillsbury, Rosemont, Saint Paul Companies, Tennant, 3M, US West, and Zytec.
