QUALCOMM and SanDisk announce support for miniSD and SD card removable storage for 3G CDMA devices".

QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, and SanDisk Corporation (Nasdaq: SNDK), the world's largest supplier of flash memory cards, recently announced support for removable miniSD and SD cards in QUALCOMM Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets. Beginning with the MSM6100 and including the MSM6250, MSM6275, MSM6300 and MSM6500 chipsets, QUALCOMM's chipsets and system software will fully support the SD card architecture.

SanDisk, a leading provider of SD and miniSD cards, worked closely with QUALCOMM to facilitate this enhancement. By adding miniSD/SD card memory integration, consumers can store digital photos, navigational maps, audio and video clips, games, music and other entertainment and enterprise files in a variety of downloadable file formats on their SD-enabled wireless devices.

"The collaboration between QUALCOMM's chipsets and SanDisk's storage solutions will increase the convenience of storing information on 3G CDMA wireless devices."

"Manufacturers using QUALCOMM chipsets with built-in SanDisk SD interface can lower product design time and reduce costs, and having SD or miniSD cards in the phone offers consumers a more personalized range of storage capacity options."

The SanDisk miniSD, a thumbnail-sized flash memory card designed to meet the needs of the mobile phone market, is the smallest flash memory card available today. Next-generation mobile phones may rely on miniSD cards to support a broad array of storage-intensive operations, including digital photography, video and audio capture and playback, multimedia messaging, and entertainment. For manufacturers, the miniSD card offers a significant savings in card area and volume--two critical design parameters for newer miniaturized mobile phones.

QUALCOMM's MSM6xxx chipsets and system solutions, including those that support the SD card architecture, are all highly integrated solutions that eliminate the need for separate, dedicated multimedia processors. These chipset solutions each support QUALCOMM's Launchpad suite of applications, enabling the development of sophisticated devices that provide high-quality stereo audio, high-resolution in-phone cameras, video recorder/players, 3D graphics for gaming, high-accuracy location tracking and many other features. The MSM6xxx solutions also include QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) platform. With the BREW protocols and tools, handset manufacturers and developers can develop embedded wireless applications and BREW-based products more quickly and easily. These applications and chipset solutions will further drive the adoption of removable storage media on next-generation 3G CDMA wireless products.%
