QUAKER STATE NAMES NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE

OIL CITY, Pa., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Quaker State Corporation (NYSE: KSF) today announced that Herbert M. Baum has been elected as the company's new chairman and chief executive officer, succeeding retiring Chairman Jack W. Corn.
Baum comes to Quaker State from Campbell Soup Company, where he served as president-Campbell North and South America, Campbell's largest operating division.
In naming Baum as the company's new chief executive, Dr. Bryce Jordan, who chaired the Quaker State board of director's search committee, said, "Baum's leadership and marketing skills will accelerate Quaker State's product presence and overall growth. The board was impressed with Herb's ability to motivate people and his great commitment to shareholders and customers."
Baum, the first "outside" CEO successor in the company's 62-year corporate history, said, "My goal is to lead a seasoned management team in capitalizing on the strong reputation of the Quaker State brand name and the company's solid franchise and financial foundation and to increase market share of all Quaker State products and services."
Baum said he regretted leaving Campbell and the company's CEO David Johnson. He described Campbell as a "great company ... an important part of my business life, but the opportunity to lead a company with the reputation and potential of Quaker State as chief executive officer was too enticing to pass up."
Retiring Chairman and CEO Corn will continue to serve as a director of the company. He has been associated with Quaker State since 1956, and has been its CEO since 1988. His retirement was announced in August of last year.
Conrad A. Conrad will continue to serve as president and chief operating officer and will report to Baum.
Quaker State is a producer and marketer of motor oils and lubricants and a marketer of products and services in the automotive aftermarket. Its subsidiaries provide fast lube services, produce oil and natural gas, manufacture safety and lighting systems for trucks and automobiles, and market specialized insurance policies primarily through auto dealers.
