QUAKER FORMS WORLDWIDE GATORADE DIVISION; REALIGNS OTHER DIVISIONS
CHICAGO, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Quaker Oats Company said today that it is forming a Gatorade Worldwide Division to accelerate the expansion of its Gatorade thirst quencher business. The new division will coordinate the worldwide marketing and distribution of Gatorade now being managed separately for North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia.
Named as senior vice president and president of the Gatorade Worldwide Division is James F. Doyle, 39, currently senior vice president - finance and customer service for U.S. Grocery Products. Prior to assuming his present post in July 1991, Doyle was president and director of the Latin America and Pacific divisions. He will report directly to Philip A. Marineau, executive vice president - grocery products, North and South America.
William D. Smithburg, chairman, president and chief executive officer, said, "Since acquiring Gatorade in 1983 as part of the acquisition of Stokely - Van Camp, we have grown the business ten-fold and have expanded distribution to 15 countries. Our challenge for the future is to leverage the solid base we have built and capitalize on the tremendous potential of the Gatorade franchise. This requires that we organize around a coordinated worldwide Gatorade strategy. By combining our current Gatorade teams under one organization, we will be able to focus our internal resources quickly and efficiently against key opportunities, expand Gatorade into new channels of distribution, and form alliances with outside partners when that is the best way to grow the business and when it makes sense for our shareholders."
 Other key Gatorade appointments include:
Peter Vitulli, 39, currently president - grocery specialties division, which includes Gatorade in the U.S., becomes president - Gatorade, U.S. and Canada.

Thomas E. O'Neill, 37, currently senior attorney, is named vice president - counsel for Gatorade Worldwide.
