QUAKER ACQUIRES PETROFSKY'S BAKERY PRODUCTS

 CHICAGO, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Quaker Oats Company (NYSE: OAT) has acquired Petrofsky's Bakery Products, a privately held manufacturer of frozen bagels and frozen specialty breads sold primarily through in- store retail bakeries. The price was not disclosed.
 Petrofsky's, located in suburban St. Louis, is a leading supplier of frozen bagels and will become a part of Quaker's growing in-store bakery business.
 Walter G. Van Benthuysen, president of Quaker's Convenience Foods Division, said, "The acquisition of Petrofsky's fits our stated objective of providing high-quality, nutritious foods. We believe that Petrofsky's manufacturing and marketing expertise in the in-store bakery channel, in combination with Quaker's strengths in food service, will enable us to grow our business in both channels."
 Quaker's Food Service business reported sales of $470 million in fiscal 1993.
