QFC ANNOUNCES NEW STORE LOCATION

BELLEVUE, Wash., July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Quality Food Centers Inc. (QFC) (NASDAQ: QFCI) today announced that it has entered into agreements for a new store, located on Mercer Island's north end in King County.
The store will be located at the southeast corner of Southeast 28th St.and 78th Ave. QFC expects to open the store, which will be approximately 27,000 square feet, in 1994. Completion of the store is subject to certain conditions which include obtaining necessary permits and licenses.
Stuart Sloan, QFC's chairman and chief executive officer, commented, "We have been serving the Mercer Island marketplace for nearly 25 years from our store at the south end of the island. We have been overwhelmed with requests from customers to build a store at the north end of the island and we are very pleased to have this opportunity to better serve the community."
The North Mercer Island location will bring QFC's store count to 39, after completion of the new store in Federal Way this fall, which is currently under construction.
QFC is the largest independent supermarket chain in the Seattle/Puget Sound area. QFC has served this area for 38 years and today operates 37 stores. QFC's first priority is satisfying the needs of customers by providing superior service, high-quality perishables and competitive prices at convenient store locations.
