QCVA to host fund-raising dinner today.

DOHA AL HIBA Team, a charity group under Qatar Center for Voluntary Activities (QCVA) will host a fundraising gala dinner at Ritz Carlton Hotel on May 1. Speaking about Al Hiba Team at a press conference, QCVA General Secretary, Youssef Ali al Kazim said, "Al Hiba Team is aimed at extending a helping hand to expatriate patients with cancer and other chronic diseases, irrespective of their nationalities or religions." The event will feature a public sale of different items such as antiques, gifts, artistic paintings, jewelry, carpets, fashion show and a musical concert to be presented by a Saudi singer Waad.

Al Hiba was established in 2008 by Sheikha Leena bint Nasser bin Khaled al Thani and a group of 24 multinational ladies, who took the initiative in responding to the humanitarian request from Al Amal Hospital regarding the depletion of the expatriate cancer patients funds.

The group's role is to help with 10 per cent treatment costs for needy patients after the government covers 90 per cent of the cost.

"Al Hiba Team has earned a high level of credibility from its achievement during its three years of charitable work.

The success is owed to its members' dedication, determination and the continuing support of generous companies and individuals in the Qatari community," Kazim said.

The team has won 'Best Achievement Award' for three consecutive years.

Sheikha Leena bint Nasser bin Khaled al Thani said, "The cases assisted by Al Hiba Team included 176 cancer patients at Al-Amal Hospital, four patients for marrow transplant outside Qatar, one patient for liver transplant outside Qatar, medicine costs for a child patient with Thalassemia, treatment of two children at Hamad Hospital, treatment of a child in Saudi Arabia, treatment of a patient with epidemic liver (hepatitis), treatment of a patient in Pakistan, transplant of stemcells for a patient in England and cost for a patient's pet scan outside Qatar, among other projects".

The press conference was attended by Ritz Carlton Area General Manager Hoss Vetry as well as other members of Al Hiba Team.
