Q My kitten seems to have a cold - sneezing runny eyes, wheezing and trouble breathing. His eye is also weeping a bit and he can't open it. What should I do?

BARTON replies: Your kitten may have cat flu, which is like human flu and caused by a virus. He may shake it off quickly, but sometimes it involves appetite loss, dehydration, pneumonia and even death. He can become poorly very quickly. I advise taking him to your vet but in the meantime, bathe his eyes and nose with warm water, make sure he is warm, offer tasty food like pilchard and give water from a dropper.
