Putting your family first.

FOR many people going through family breakdown, seeing a lawyer is their first port of call.

However, the family team at David Gray LLP recognise that separation and divorce is not just about dealing with legal arrangements.

The team, who are all members of Resolution, and ranked in the top tier of both the Legal 500 and Chambers UK, offer a modern and holistic service that puts clients' and especially children's welfare at the heart of what they do.

And now, in an exciting development, David Gray has been selected as one of only three firms in the country to host Resolution's new Family Matters service. A Family Matters Guide supports both parents and gives them information to enable them to make the right choices for their family on separation. The service is free to those on benefits or the minimum living wage.

Head of department Mary Shaw said: "For several years we have been at the forefront of developing services to meet clients' needs.

"I trained as a collaborative family lawyer in 2007 and was involved in the first collaborative case in the region, and more recently have become a family mediator.

"Collaborative family law and family mediation have now become popular options for clients who want to achieve a lasting settlement without going to Court. Our team of specialists offers an extensive range of services to families, and we are delighted to have been selected to host Resolution's new Family Matters service. From the moment clients first make contact with us, we listen to their concerns and priorities. We recognise that what is right for one client is not for another, and we assess carefully which of our services will best meet their needs."

Often clients need urgent advice and representation in court proceedings. With seven resolution accredited specialists in various areas of law including domestic abuse, children, financial provision, pensions and cohabitation disputes, the team has extensive experience of representing clients in the full range of family litigation. There are also seven Children Panel lawyers who advise and represent parents, children and other family members in care and adoption proceedings. Partner Clare Routledge is a higher rights advocate so the team can offer in-house advocacy for even the most complex of cases.

Court is not the best choice for other clients, and David Gray offers family mediation, collaborative family law, and solicitor-assisted negotiation to enable them to resolve issues without going to Court. David Gray's unique Choosing Options Together service enables couples to meet together with a member of the team to hear information about which option may be best for them.

The team has strong links with local support services, such as Relate, so that clients can be appropriately supported throughout their case. The team's collaborative family lawyers work closely with family consultants, who help manage the emotional aspects so that clients can more easily focus on reaching an outcome they can live with.
