Put on your dancing shoes.

THIS summer, the UK will be in the midst of dance fever as the national programme, Big Dance, hits cities across the country.

Liverpool-based dance company Merseyside Dance Initiative (MDI) is the official representative for the North West region and has just announced plans to create a massparticipation dance performance. Big Dance in the North West takes place across the region from Friday, May 18, until Sunday, September 9, with a particular focus in Big Dance week from Saturday, July 7, until Sunday, July 15.

MDI is on the hunt for 50 people to represent Liverpool in an amazing finale event that will see 1,275 people dance in unison, in one location, in an amazing performance.

MDI is working with Dance Initiative Greater Manchester (DIGM), Ludus Dance (Lancashire) and Dance Cumbria to deliver dance events throughout the season.

The flagship project will link up all of the region's boroughs and bring together 1,275 participants in a mass dance performance at Chavasse Park in Liverpool ONE on July 15.

The artistic structure for this will be provided by choreographic consultant Jeanefer Jean Charles, whose career began in Merseyside; north west-based artistic director Lisi Perry, and 25 north west artists.
