Pupils killed by knifeman.

A man with a knife broke into a high school dormitory and killed eight students in the deadliest of a series of knife attacks at Chinese schools in recent months, the government said today.

Police were searching for the man following the attack late yesterday at the No 2 High School in the city of Ruzhou, which also injured four students, the official Xinhua News Agency said.

Murder charge

A MAN has been charged with the murder of a tank regiment soldier shot dead hours after returning to Britain on leave, police said. A 25-year-old man from Edgbaston, Birmingham, will appear before Warley Magistrates charged with killing Trooper Narel Sharp, 20, a member of the Queen's Royal Hussars who died in September after being shot near his home in Smethwick, West Midlands.

Son spotted

THERE has been a sighting of the missing son of a woman murdered in a knife attack at her home, detectives said. The body of Maxine Penfold, 49, was found on Tuesday at her home in Cullompton, Devon. Police revealed they wanted to question her son, Philip Wayne, 20, and today said CCTV footage had confirmed a witness report that Mr Wayne was in Exeter on Tuesday.

THE late Princess Diana claimed she had sex with her husband, the Prince of Wales, just once every three weeks, it was reported today. American TV channel NBC will broadcast interviews on Monday, including the princess discussing intimate details of her marriage during one of its most difficult periods.

Hunt demo arrests

THREE people were arrested as hundreds of pro-hunt protesters gathered outside a Labour Party event in Cardiff attended by three Cabinet ministers last night. Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Alan Milburn, Leader of the House Peter Hain and Northern Ireland Secretary Paul Murphy were all at the event.

Suspects quizzed

TEN suspected insurgents rounded up by the Black Watch south of Baghdad in the biggest British military offensive since the end of the war in Iraq were being questioned today. Two Marines were killed and three wounded when they came under fire in Fallujah, the US military said today.

OAP accused

A 70-year-old has been charged with the murder of a girl who went missing in 1967, it emerged today. Dumfries and Galloway police confirmed the pensioner was arrested in the Grampian Police area in connection with the disappearance of Patricia Mary McAdam, 17, from Dumfries.
