Pupil threatened with a knife outside school; children immediately called back inside as police hunted suspect.

POLICE are investigating after a pupil was threatened with a knife at a school's gates.

West Midlands Police were called just before 3.30pm last Thursday to Shenley Academy, after a pupil reported that they had been threatened.

Pupils were immediately called back into the Weoley Castle school premises for their own safety by staff while officers searched for the suspect.

No students harmed in and the following their Lucy But no offender was found and the police have been speaking to students and staff, checking CCTV footage as part of their enquiries.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "Officers arrived within minutes but the offender had left the scene.

"Information has been received about a potential suspect and the enquiries are ongoing."

Headteacher Lucy Hunt posted two letters on the school website to reassure parents, and police were also patrolling the gate.

She wrote: "I am writing to you following an incident near the school gates after the end of the school day on Thursday 12th October.

"The Academy was immediately alerted to this incident and students who were in the vicinity were returned to school. The police were notified, attended the school, met with students and staff and viewed CCTV.

Hunt "Our school gates are staffed by members of the Senior Leadership Team, both before and after school everyday and will be supported by police officers in order to answer any questions that members of our school community have.

"There is no reason at all to anticipate any disturbance to the normal running of the school day and we would ask parents/carers to send all students to school as normal."

Anyone with information should speak with the senior leadership team.
