Pupil starved to death.

AN inquest into the death of a schoolgirl who starved herself, apparently due to a dental phobia, was due to end today.

Sophie Waller is believed to have suffered from such an extreme fear she refused to eat, drink or speak when her milk teeth started to come loose. Doctors removed all eight milk teeth so she did not need repeat operations.

After Sophie left hospital she continued to refuse most food and died two weeks later on December 2, 2005. She was so emaciated her hair was falling out and her spine was visible through her skin.

Her parents Janet and Richard, from St Dennis, Cornwall, claim the hospital refused when they tried to return Sophie to the ward.

But doctors said the family did not discuss Sophie's deteriorating condition.

Pathologist Dr Marie-Ann Brundler said Sophie died from acute renal failure.
