Pulse-Pounding, Nail-Biting, Teeth-Chattering, High-Velocity Excitement's His Bag; New ''Jock Jack,'' Bendable Figures Showcase Jack in the Box Founder as Thrill-Seeker.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 23, 1999--

Up for a little shuffleboard? Maybe some lawn bowling or croquet? How about a rousing game of badminton?

Well, you just have fun with that. As for Jack in the Box(R) restaurants founder Jack(R), he'll catch you later. Way later.

See, a guy who spends his working life running a chain of 1,460-plus fast-food outlets needs to blow off a little steam on the weekends, and polite, low-key backyard recreation of the suburban variety just isn't going to cut it.

Proof comes in the form of seven new "Jock Jack" bendable figures, available beginning June 28 with the purchase of a kid's meal at participating Jack in the Box restaurants, or sold separately for 99 cents each. In the series, Jack suits up for a skydive, bundles up for snowboarding and leans into a sharp turn on his street luge. He also dons stock-car racing and scuba gear, takes on the rapids in a custom-fitted kayak, and displays remarkable facility with a rod and reel.

"Jack, like so many high-powered executives, really does have a taste for extreme recreational pursuits," says company Promotions Manager Jody Sawyer. "It worries our insurance carriers, of course, but the same behavior that drives Jack to jump out of planes and conquer snowboarding trails is what makes him such an inspiring leader."

The new Jack bendable series is the fourth produced by the chain in recent years. To date, Jack in the Box has sold more than 4 million Jack antenna balls; in total, consumers have taken home more than 14 million premiums in Jack's likeness since 1995, when Jack was reintroduced as the company's spokesman in a campaign the Fort Worth Star-Telegram has called "the greatest ads ever."

Jack in the Box restaurants, one of the nation's largest fast-food hamburger chains, is a division of Foodmaker, Inc. Headquartered in San Diego, the company operates and franchises more than 1,460 Jack in the Box restaurants throughout the western United States.
