Pull on those boots and walk...

TWO wheels or Shank's Pony - the choice is yours in Redcar and Cleveland's Walking and Cycling Festival.

The council's countryside team has drawn up a programme of guided walks and a cycle ride for the June 6-12 festival, with booking essential and places allocated on a first come, first served basis. There will be no charge for the series of walks planned on Friday.

Full programme: Friday, June 6 From Woodlands to Whartons, 10am-4pm: nine-mile circular from Saltburn to Skelton.

Hummersea Alum Walk, 10am-1.30pm: Tees Archaeology visit secluded beach below Hummersea Cliffs.

Great Ayton and Stokesley, 9.30am-4.30pm: 13-mile circular to Newton under Roseberry.

Twin Valley Walk, 10am-1pm: 3.5 miles around Saltburn's woodland valleys.

Circular Bike Ride, 10.30am-4pm: 12 miles around Redcar.

Friday Evening, 6pm start: Meet at Guisborough Forest and Walkway for barbecue.

Saturday, June 7 Five Woods and Four Moors, 9am-4pm: 12-mile circular.

Miners Way, 10am-2.30pm: six miles along cliff top coastal path.

West Banks Wander, 10am-3pm: eight-mile circular to West Banks and Eston Nab.

Roseberry Topping and Captain Cook's monument, 10.30am-4pm: seven miles.

Sunday, June 8 Stroll to the Topping, 1-4pm: six-mile circular to Roseberry Topping.

Upleatham Church, 10am-1.30pm: five-mile circular.

Kittiwake Walk, 11am-3pm: Saltburn to Skinningrove to see breeding colony.

To see what you could see, 10am-3pm: seven miles over Eston Hills.

Wilton Woods and Dunsdale, 9.30am-4pm: 11-mile circular.
