Pub gutted in arson attack.

MORE than 50 firefighters battled to save a Black Country pub yesterday after it was targeted in a suspected arson attack.

Part of the Queen's Head, in Londonderry Lane, was destroyed in the blaze in Smethwick in the early hours of yesterday morning.

At its peak eight crews fought the flames at the empty property after neighbours had raised the alarm at around 2.25am when they spotted smoke pouring out of the building.

The blaze has gutted a function room at the back of the pub but was stopped from spreading to the main bar area, which suffered smoke damage.

Crews continued to damp down the area yesterday.
