Pub gets pounds 120,000 facelift.

An entrepreneur and a pub firm are uniting to give a prime Moseley building its latest makeover.

Businessman Ashley Bent, aged 47, and Greene King are ploughing in around pounds 120,000 between them to revamp the Salisbury pub in the centre of the suburb.

Mr Bent - who is behind the innovative gastro-pub the The Bell at Tamworth-in-Arden - has taken on a lease at the site.

The new bar and cafe, called Drift, is due to be launched around the end of July.

He said: 'This is a great opportunity to bring a familiar landmark completely up to date.

'I know the area well and look forward to creating a friendly, fashionable venue which locals can enjoy and where visitors will be welcomed.'

The business will offer a selection of bar drinks and light deli-style food, based around the initial operation at The Bell.

Mr Bent said the site started life around the turn of the century as the administration office of the city's tram company.

It then became a row of shops only to change again to become a dealership for up-market second hand cars.

It became a pub in the 1990s, when it was run by Whitbread as part of its Hogshead chain.

It was sold to the Laurel pub company before being taken on, along with scores of Laurel-owned pubs nationally, by Greene King, he said.

He said he is putting around pounds 60,000 in for fittings and fixtures with Green King ploughing in around pounds 65,000 on structural work.
