Pub and Age UK host festive meal.
A COVENTRY pub joined forces with Age UK to host a Christmas feast over the festive season.
The Litten Tree, on Warwick Row, laid on a free Christmas meal to 16 older people in Coventry.
Kiren Jones, system manager at the pub, said it was important to bring people together over Christmas.
"Loneliness in older people is a very serious issue and the effects of this are multiplied over the Christmas holidays.
"We decided to give something back to the community by teaming up with Age UK Coventry and giving free Christmas meals to 16 older people so that they could enjoy a great meal in company and warm surroundings.
We were thrilled to play our part in tackling loneliness over Christmas." One guest said: "I was so happy to be invited to this meal and thank both The Litten Tree and Age UK Coventry for organising it.
"Loneliness is hard to accept most days but at Christmas time it is especially difficult. I am so pleased I have not missed out on sharing wonderful company and a lovely meal."
Age UK is looking for volunteers to befriend an older person in Coventry. For more information, call 024 7643 3980.
