Psychiatry is trying to eradicate the concept of right and wrong; AGENDA & LETTERS.

Dear Sir, Psychiatrists representing Kenneth Erskine, dubbed the Stockwell Strangler, are eroding our justice system through elaborate, systemised, jargon-filled, serioussounding deceptions in order to lessen his crimes to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility rather than murder.

It once again highlights the fierce assault on the justice system, where psychiatrists loudly assert their ex-pertisebut instead betray our most deeply held values.

There was once the idea a person is responsible for his own actions. It's an idea, however, that has gone the way of the dinosaur. Crimes are being lessened because psychiatrists swear the person is or was insane.

Dr Thomas Szasz, Professor Emeritus of psychiatry, says: "To be sure some people are dangerous." But, "dangerousness is not supposed to be an abstract psychological condition attributed to a person; instead, it is supposed to be an inference drawn from the fact a person has committed a violent act that is illegal, has been charged with it, tried for it, and found guilty of it. In which case, he should be punished, not 'treated' - in a jail, not in a hospital."

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) has every respect for medicine practiced as med-icinein a spirit of honest, ethical endeavour, and with due consideration for the primacy of the patient's needs and health.

However, psychiatry's attempt to eradicate the concept of right and wrong undermines the justice system and deserves the contemptuous label: junk science.
