DUBAI -- The Ministry of Health (MoH) has released a psychiatric guideline to be placed in all primary health centres as an initial step to apply the psychiatric health programme.

Dr Mona Al Kuwari, Director of Primary Healthcare Central Administration at the Ministry of Health, said: "The guideline is a reference for all doctors and technicians working at the primary healthcare centres to deal with psychiatric cases, provide early detection and explain ways of treatment.

"It also enhances psychiatric health and the application of its strategies in the primary healthcare centre," she added in a statement. The guideline is based on studies by a number of the ministry's psychiatric consultants in collaboration with specialists abroad. It also relies on the references of the World Health Organisation. The guideline consists of 9 chapters: understanding psychiatric diseases and ways of diagnosis as well as international classifications of psychiatric diseases. --
