Proxim and Cerner Announce Partnership to Deliver Wireless Healthcare Solutions.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 1997--Proxim, Inc., a leading supplier of wireless data communications products, and Cerner Corporation, a leading developer of clinical and management information systems, announced today an agreement that combines Cerner's electronic medical record solutions with Proxim's RangeLAN2 wireless local area networking (LAN) technology.

The combined solution allows mobile healthcare professionals to access or collect information from anywhere in a medical facility.

Cerner HNA Millennium

Health Network Architecture (HNA) Millennium is Cerner's fifth generation of HNA, the industry's most comprehensive set of applications designed to manage health and automate processes across the continuum of care.

HNA Millennium is designed to meet the needs of progressive health organizations today and well into the next millennium with enterprisewide lifetime electronic medical record at the core of its architecture, supported with a robust decision support capability integrated into the enterprisewide messaging system.

RangeLAN2 Technology

Proxim's RangeLAN2 2.4 GHz technology is designed for high-performance mobility-driven wireless LAN applications. Based on highly secure, interference-immune spread spectrum technology, RangeLAN2 delivers exceptional range, throughput and network scalability based on an advanced 2.4 GHz frequency hopping wireless LAN system architecture.

RangeLAN2 operates at an uncompressed data rate of 1.6 megabits per second (Mbps) per channel with 15 available channels providing aggregate wireless bandwidth up to 24 Mbps. The RangeLAN2 architecture incorporates wireless networking features such as seamless roaming, power management, advanced security, site survey diagnostics, and the IEEE-endorsed high-throughput modulation approach.
